It is understood / estimated that the main lodge was built in 1912 and is of some historic value. The “motel” portion was added in the 1940’s.
Over the years various upgrades have been conducted throughout the property. The current owners have totally redone the living area. The kitchen, living room, dining room, and bathroom have all been modernized and afford a very comfortable living environment for the owners. The suite has one bedroom. There is a rustic basement area for storage / workshop.
There are 12 units outside of the main lodge and 3 in the main building. In total there are 10 kitchens / kitchenettes.
The property is nicely landscaped with many coming to take advantage of the pastoral back yard area the overlooks the river and railroad trestles. It is a very desirable location for the photographers, trying to catch the
perfect picture of two passing trains!
The motel operates all year, there is a fair amount of repeat clientele and it gets business from railway and work crews in the area, especially in the spring and fall months. Business is slowest between December through March, depending on the work crews. The tourist season is largely June to September. There is minimum competition, as Lytton only has a hotel and two other small motels. It would seem that the “Totem” is the place of preference!
There is also a heated outdoor community pool just two lots away that is open from mid-June through to the end of August.
If you are considering a solid, entry level motel that has reasonable proximity to Vancouver then this is a logical choice!
